25th September 2013 : With 10 months to go to the 7th SOS Festival, we're
extremely happy to confirm our first 6 bands for 2014....
|
Absolva made a meteoric start in May 2012,
formed by Chris Appleton & Martin McNee of Fury UK, following the
departure of Luke Appleton to Iced Earth. Absolva played a debut show
at SOS Festival 2012, before releasing a universally lauded debut
album "Flames Of Justice" in November. They've toured UK & Europe
consistently including Bloodstock & hammerfest, & release a live DVD & CD "Beyond Live" this month. By
the time SOS 2014 comes around the band will have released a 2nd
studio album.

Back in 1982 Tysondog released a debut album "Beware
Of The Dog" which many respected music critics, such as Geoff Barton and
Malcolm Dome, expected to project the band to the "big league". Although
lady luck in those days failed to smile on the band, they forged a
reputation as a shining example of the NWOBHM scene before calling it a day
just in 1987. Little was heard of the band until the past 5 years or so,
when the spirit and ethos of the NWOBHM scene is once again alive and
kicking. Tysondog very ably remind us just why they were regarded as such
hot property in the first place.

Peter Ellis, formerly of White Wizzard and The
More I See, formed Monument in 2011 and has stirred an incredible
groundswell of support and praise as genuine purveyors of true British
heavy metal. With thunderous melodic bass tones, dual guitar
harmonies, rock solid drum beats and signature falsetto wails,
Monument is determined to make a difference. Witnesses to their
performance at Hammerfest 2013 will duly testify.

Having concentrated our line-up as above so far on
British heavy metal, we turn to a regular at SOS Festival and a
slightly different NWOBHM - the New Wave Of
Belgian
Heavy Metal? Formed in 2008, Wizz Wizzard have established themselves
as firm favourites with evermore accomplished live performances headed
up by the charismatic frontman Wizz, who carries with him more than a
hint of Ronnie James Dio and Biff Byford.

The first of our heavier bands is a returning
band from the 2013 SOS Festival. Those in attendance on day two last
year will have a seen an exciting delivery of technical, progressive,
multi-textured, melodic death metal. There was also the matter of an
inspired acoustic set on day one with the band's songs lovingly
re-crafted for unplugged delivery and superbly performed. Fans that
witnessed the band at Bloodstock Open Air 2013 will also vouch for
their excellence.

The international presence in our first
announced bands is completed by offering a very warm welcome to
another Belgium band Eternal Breath. The band has existed with various
line-ups for around 15 years and in the past 2-3 years has pushed
forward with a growing flock of support in their homeland and we're
delighted to help introduce the band to British audiences in 2014.
